The travel industry has been greatly affected by the Coronavirus pandemic, causing limitations on both local and international travel. However, thanks to the remarkable speed at which scientists and medical experts have worked, vaccines have been developed and are effectively controlling the spread of the virus. As a result, international borders are gradually reopening and deemed safe.

Considering the risks associated with international travel, it is highly likely that you will be required to link your passport with your vaccine certificate when leaving the country. This serves as proof that you have received the complete dosage of the vaccine, ensuring your safety as well as the well-being of your co-passengers and society as a whole.

If you have an upcoming trip abroad or frequently travel, it is important to be aware of the vaccines accepted in your destination country before receiving the doses in India.

  • Step 1: Register on the CoWIN app and select passport as your Photo ID.

To begin, you must register on the official CoWIN website. Visit www.cowin.gov.in and provide your mobile number. Enter the OTP you receive to verify your identity.

  • Step 2: Enter your passport details in the photo ID section.

After verification, you will be directed to a registration page. Fill in your full name, gender, age, and other necessary information. Select 'Passport' as your photo ID type and enter your passport details.

  • Step 3: Schedule an appointment and get vaccinated.

Navigate to the 'Book Appointment for Vaccination' page and search for vaccination centers based on your state, district, and pin code. Choose a convenient center and click on 'Book'. Once your appointment is confirmed, you will be eligible to receive the vaccine on your preferred day and time. Remember to complete both doses within the recommended time intervals.

If you already have a CoWIN account and have been vaccinated using a different registered photo ID, such as your driver's license or Aadhaar Card, you will need to update your passport details.

  • Step 1: Add your passport number to the COVID vaccine certificate.

Log in to your CoWIN account, access the 'Account Details' section, and select the 'Raise Issue' option. From there, choose 'Add Passport Details' and enter your passport number in the 'Enter Beneficiary's Passport Number' field. Double-check the accuracy of the entered passport number, as modifications to the photo ID details will not be permitted afterward.

  • Step 2: Confirm and submit the changes.

Enter your passport number and check the box declaring that the passport belongs to you, the beneficiary. Finally, click on the 'Submit Request' button.

  • Step 3: Receive text message confirmation.

You will receive a text notification on the registered phone number associated with your CoWIN account confirming your request. Shortly after, you should receive another message confirming the successful update of your request. Please allow a few minutes for this message to arrive as network load may cause delays.

Sign in to your account to begin. Go to the 'Account Details' section and choose the beneficiary's 'Certificate' whose passport details you have modified or added. After clicking the download button, you will see that the vaccine certificate has been successfully linked to the passport.

To ensure your safety, consider getting an Overseas Travel Insurance Plan that suits your needs.

To undertake an international journey, it is essential to be fully vaccinated with the required two doses and ensure that your passport is linked to the vaccine certificate. When entering the passport number, be cautious and avoid any mistakes.

In most cases, the passport linked to the COVID vaccine is sufficient for international travel unless the destination country modifies its COVID guidelines for travelers from India. Some countries may also require a COVID test before entry. Stay updated on national and international travel guidelines in the weeks leading up to your flight.

    1. What Vaccines are Available in India?

Currently, the widely available vaccines in India include Covishield from Oxford, Covaxin developed domestically, and approved emergency use of Sputnik, Moderna, and Johnson and Johnson's COVID-19 vaccines.

    2. Why is it Mandatory to Link Passports with Vaccination Certificates for International Travelers?

Linking your passport with the vaccination certificate is mandatory as it serves as a valid proof that the traveler is fully vaccinated against the Coronavirus. Therefore, it is necessary to have this linkage.
