Data Maintenance for India's Unique Identifier, Aadhaar
To use Aadhaar Online Services, you must first register your mobile number.
The mobile number you provided during enrollment or the most recent update of your Aadhaar details can be verified.
Please visit a Permanent Enrolment Centre to register your mobile phone number if you did not do so during your Aadhaar enrollment.
Enabling Aadhaar for a wide range of services including government and non-government services, subsidies, pensions, scholarships, social benefits, banking, insurance, taxation, education, employment, healthcare, etc. , it is crucial that the resident's Aadhaar information contained in the CIDR is both correct and up-to-date.
Possible reasons for requiring a new census estimate include:
- People's names and addresses often change as a result of major life changes like getting married. Due to relocation, both your address and mobile phone number may change. Life events, such as marriage, death, and divorce, can prompt residents to update their relatives' information. In addition, locals may opt to alter their contact info due to personal circumstances.
- Residents may need to update their declarations, add their mobile phone numbers to their CIDRs, etc. as a result of shifts in the service delivery infrastructure.
- Inaccuracies in the resident's demographic information due to mistakes made during enrollment. Because of enrolment mistakes, updates to the "DoB/Age" and "Gender" fields are to be anticipated.
- Due to the fact that a resident can enroll anywhere in India, it is possible for a native speaker of language "A" to be enrolled by an operator of language "B," making language "B" the resident's local language of enrolment. At a later date, the resident may wish to switch from the local language of enrollment to one of his or her choosing. If that's the case, then the Aadhaar letter needs to be revised to include the updated demographic information in the preferred local language.
- UIDAI may decide to notify residents to update their demographic information and submit the required document after verifying the availability of POI, POA, and other documents collected during enrollment/update and the quality of the data.
The need for a biometric update may result from:
- In order to enroll, a person must be at least 15 years old; residents are encouraged to update their biometric information every decade.
- Biometric exceptions can occur because of things like accidents or diseases.
- Aadhaar is rapidly becoming the de facto identification system in India. Incorrect biometric capture or poor biometric quality captured at the time of enrolment can lead to authentication failures (called false rejects - where a correct resident with valid Aadhaar number is incorrectly rejected), prompting residents to seek biometric updates. Enhanced biometrics capture in the CIDR may become a reality as technology advances.
- UIDAI may set a minimum standard for the accuracy of biometric data collected during enrollment and updates. UIDAI may send out a notification to all residents whose biometrics fall below a predetermined threshold requiring an update.
These are the aspects of Aadhaar that can be modified:
Data on the population's demographics
Biological identifiers
Numerous forms of Proof of Identity (PoI) and Proof of Address (PoA) are recognized by the UIDAI update procedure. Check out this list of supplementary materials
Techniques for Progress
1. Through the World Wide Web
Online residents can change their addresses through the Self-Service portal, where they can also submit requests for other services. To access the portal, a resident must enter their Aadhaar number and mobile phone number. A one-time-password (OTP) sent to the resident's registered phone verifies their identity. Supporting POA documents uploaded by residents during the update process will be checked by a Verifier against the requested data at a later time in the Update back-office of UIDAI. To use this service, the resident's mobile phone number must be linked to their Aadhaar profile.

2. Go to a Center for Permanent Enrollment.
These are the channels through which citizens, with the aid of a clerk at a Permanent Enrolment Centre, submit requests to have their personal information and biometrics updated. The operator will collect the necessary proof at the time of request acceptance. At the time an Update request is submitted, the verifier will also conduct a document verification. UIDAI is planning on implementing three different types of Assisted Updates at this time:
a Upgrade the Client Industry Standard
Specifics: All fields, including local language and biometric information, are updatable.
Back-end biometric check for identity verification.
Evidence-Based Verification
- Evidence-based fields have been verified.
- UIDAI-approved verifiers or onsite registrars perform the checks at the enrollment/update center.
- The enrollment verification process should adhere to the guidelines established by the DDSVP Committee.
Method of Receipt: Form Completion and Acceptance
- Completed by the operator on the client update system whenever a resident requests it. Takes care of transliteration, grammar, spelling, etc. Each update request will require biometric authentication from the operator.
An Update Request Number (URN) and acknowledgment receipt are sent to the resident.

b UCL, or UCL Update Client, is an extremely lightweight update client.
Any and all fields pertaining to personal information, including local language and photographs, are editable.
Proof of Identity: Biometric Identitiy Verification of Local Resident
Checking Paperwork
- We checked the areas that needed paperwork.
- UIDAI-approved verifiers or onsite registrars perform the checks at the enrollment/update center.
- When enrolling in DDSVP, verification steps should be taken in accordance with recommendations made by the DDSVP Committee.
Acceptance and Form Completion
- Client updates are performed by the operator at the request of the resident. Each resident is given a receipt of acknowledgment that includes a unique Update Request Number (URN) for the purpose of tracking their request. For every request for an update, the operator will have a biometric signature on file.
c Keep up-to-date with the help of AUA POP!
Only a few Registrars who eventually join the AUA will use this system. UIDAI may make available a software/API for the purpose of To ensure the accuracy of this information, we will only choose Registrars who are well-known to be a custodian of this specific demographic field through their own collection, generation, possession, or management of this information.
Domains: Demographic domains
To verify your identity, the AUA will use your biometric information; however, UIDAI reserves the right to employ other authentication methods. Use of one-time passwords sent to a mobile device is one example of how this channel can be used to request updates
Every request for an update will require biometric verification from the operator. Consequently, they require Aadhaar. Use of this device is subject to UIDAI's stringent Authorization requirements.
Based on the results of the Registrar's verification process and Resident Authentication, UIDAI will accept the update. Electronic or scanned copies of documents may be collected online for auditing purposes. The Registrar may collect and store these copies alongside individual requests from residents, or they may be made available in batches in relation to Update Request Numbers, Dates, and Times.
Procedures for Form Completion and Acceptance
- Processed by Registrar Operator (in-house or third-party) on Biometric Authentication-Capable Device (e.g., a Micro-ATM); results in a trackable Update Request Number (URN) and acknowledgement receipt for the resident. Depending on the nature of the request, the acknowledgment could be a printed form or an SMS/email. In the case of a mobile number update, for instance, the acknowledgment could be a text message sent to the supplied mobile phone. The API can produce both digital and printed receipts. When updating requests are complete, the Registrar has the option of handing out printed receipts.
